3 Blog Post Types to Boost Your SEO and Book More Clients

Welcome to Episode 170 of The Dream Biz® Podcast, where we help you launch, streamline, and grow your business so you can work less, earn more, and build something that truly supports your life. In today’s conversation, I (Christi Johnson) sit down with SEO strategist and small business coach Victoria Rayburn to talk about something all creative entrepreneurs need to know: how to boost your SEO with blog content to attract your ideal clients and grow your business sustainably.

Victoria breaks down the 3 types of blog posts that actually help you rank on Google and explains how blogging can be a powerful (and underutilized!) tool for consistent leads.

If you’re tired of chasing the algorithm or wondering why your website traffic is flatlining, this episode is your roadmap to better rankings and better clients—without burnout.

Why SEO Still Matters for Creative Entrepreneurs in 2025

Before she was an SEO strategist, Victoria Rayburn was a wedding photographer. She shares that 40% of her bookings came from Google, even during the chaos of the pandemic. Thanks to SEO, she was consistently booked and even had to turn clients away.

“I didn’t even realize that I was doing something different,” Victoria says. “I was just applying what I knew from working at a marketing agency—and optimizing my site worked.”

That experience sparked a career shift. Now, Victoria helps other small business owners get found online, either by teaching them SEO or doing it for them.

What Is SEO—and Why Should Small Business Owners Care?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) means improving your website so it shows up when people search for what you offer.

“If your website doesn’t rank well on Google, you’re missing out on business,” Victoria explains.

97% of people use Google when they’re ready to buy a product or service. Social media might create visibility, but it doesn’t guarantee that your most ready-to-buy clients will find you. Google does.

3 Types of Blog Content That Boost Your SEO

Blogging is far from dead—and if you want to rank higher on Google, there are three specific types of blog posts Victoria recommends focusing on.

1. Educational Blog Posts

These are value-packed posts that teach your audience something useful. They position you as an expert and build trust.

Examples:

  • “How to Prepare Kids for a Family Photo Session”
  • “Top Wedding Trends for 2025”
  • “What to Wear for Your Engagement Photos”

Educational posts also improve your Google EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness)—which is key for SEO rankings.

2. Blogging Your Work (Case Studies + Portfolio Content)

This type of content builds brand authority and shows potential clients what it’s like to work with you.

Visual businesses like photographers, calligraphers, and designers might share recent sessions or project recaps. But even service providers like VAs, OBMs, and coaches can do this using:

  • Case studies
  • Client success stories
  • Behind-the-scenes of a client project

“When people see your work across multiple Google searches, it builds brand authority and makes them more likely to book you.”

3. Location-Specific Blog Posts

If you serve a particular area, location-based blog content helps you rank in local search results.

Examples:

  • “Best Wedding Venues in Asheville, NC”
  • “Top Photo Locations in Downtown Indianapolis”
  • “Our Favorite Greenville Coffee Shops for Client Meetings”

This not only helps with SEO—it also positions you as a go-to expert in your area.

Bonus Tip: Use ChatGPT to brainstorm local content ideas, then refine them with your own knowledge to avoid sounding generic or spammy.

How to Make Sure Your Blog Posts Actually Rank

Writing the blog is only half the equation. Victoria shares two essential tips to help your posts perform well:

✅ Write the Best Content on the Internet

  • Google rewards the most helpful and complete posts.
  • Research what’s already ranking, then aim to do it better—include images, answer FAQs, and add bonus details like parking info or venue policies.

✅ Use SEO Keywords Strategically

  • Keywords help search engines understand your content.
  • Use terms your audience is actually searching for.

How Long Does It Take to See SEO Results?

According to Victoria, if you do a full SEO optimization and blog consistently, you can expect to see results in about 6 months.

Consistency is key—but frequency depends on your competition. If your competitors blog once a month, try blogging twice a month to stay ahead.

“Google exists to share content. If you’re creating high-quality content, you’re helping Google do its job—and that helps you rank.”
