Benefits of Delegating

Why should you delegate in the first place? The biggest reason is to reduce your stress! Being a business owner is hard, but you don’t have to do everything! Allow yourself to let go of control and pass it along to someone else. Delegating can also help you get more done simply because there’s more than one person working on your business. Also, you can spend your time doing more of what you love. Delegate the tasks that you don’t love and do what you love! You can also grow your business this way because you can maximize profitability. Spend your time doing the tasks that only you can do and outsource the rest!

Delegation Myths

There are 3 big myths that I see when it comes to delegating in your business. The first is that the person you delegate to won’t do a good job as you. This is simply not true! Often the reason that someone thinks this is because they are micro managing too much. Either that, or they give instructions that are too vague. If you can let go you will be surprised! Let the professional do their job.

Another big myth is they think they can just go with the first person and everything will be roses and buterfilies. This is not always the case! So don’t wait until the last minute to hire someone. Plan ahead and give yourself time to find the perfect fit.

Finally, when you delegate, it doesn’t mean that you do absolutely no work on that task anymore. When you delegate in your business, you are stepping into the role of manager. You have to provide clear instructions to your team member and help them do the job well. If you’re frustrated with someone’s performance, what will you do? Can you communicate clearly to them what you exepect? Most problems can be solved before you even hire just by having clear operating procedures, clear expectations, and communicating them clearly to your potential client. And making sure they can do that and understand the expectations! So while delegating does save you a TON of time, you need to be ready to manage the team!

If you aren’t good at management, you can always hire an Online Business Manager or an OBM to help you out. (psssst – I’m offering OBM services!)

How to Make Delegating in Your Business Easy

So how do you make it easy for someone to jump onto your team? The easiest way is to make SOPs or Standard Operating Procedures. Here’s how to do that:

  • Write down all the tasks you need help with
  • Film a video of yourself doing the task
  • Narrate the video as you go
  • Write down the steps on a doc after filming the video
  • Update the videos & docs at least once a year

And it’s as easy as that!

5 Things to Delegate in Your Business

Unsure of what to delegate in your business? Maybe you know that you need help but you aren’t sure which tasks to take off your plate and give to someone else. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Tasks that you don’t enjoy doing
  • Anything that takes you a really long time to do that someone else could do faster
  • Tasks on your list that keep not getting done
  • Repetetive tasks that don’t require your expertise
  • Anything that keeps you from doing your true work

How to Find Someone to Delegate To

Last but not least, how do you find someone you can add to your team? You can search on Instagram. Or, you can make an ISO post on Facebook or in Facebook groups. You can also do a search inside Facebook Groups to find people others have worked with. Or you can ask a colleague who they have used and enjoy working with!

Delegating is often a big step on the way to growth as a business owner. If you need help with any tasks in your business, let me know! I offer Business Strategy and Task Management Services for Creative Entrepeneurs! I’d love to work with you! Check out my services and we can get started!
