One Year Together

On December 13, 2016, as we were leaving a friend’s house, Matt asked me if we could “get together sometime.” I played it cool and told him calmly, “I’d like that!” But inside I was as doing cartwheels, because I’d been crushing on him pretty hard for the last month. He texted me later that night, and we agreed to go to lunch the next day. I panicked because I had to pick the spot to eat. Where do you go on a first date?? We decided on Golden Brown & Delicious in West Greenville because I was meeting a friend at The Village Grind next door already that morning (Shoutout to Christa Rene… I’ll always remember that coffee date, LOL!). Neither of us had been to GB&D, and I was worried he would think it was too hipster, or he wouldn’t like the food. Of course, because their food is AMAZING, it worked out, and we loved it. We actually even ordered the same thing on our first date!

We had a whirlwind romance and got engaged 5 months later and married 2 months after that. Matt and I love finding things to celebrate, so every month on the 14th we head back to our favorite lunch spot in West Greenville. If you haven’t been yet, you MUST! Their Tomato Avocado sandwich is to die for, and their burger is heaven! Yesterday, December 14, we celebrated one year since our first date!!

I can’t believe how much has changed in one short year. My parents always told me that when I met my husband I would “just know”. Since it hadn’t happened to me yet, and since I’m not one to believe in fairytale endings, I didn’t believe them. But then I met and everything changed. We dated for 5 months and were married 2 months later. We “just knew” that we wanted to be married, and we knew that with Christ at the center of our relationship, it didn’t matter if we dated 5 months or 5 years. Yesterday we celebrated one year since our first date. I can’t wait to celebrate many more!!

We decided to make our anniversary even more special by going to Christmas at Biltmore on Wednesday!! We actually purchased a Daytime Ticket AND the Candlelight Christmas tickets so we got to experience the magic of Biltmore twice in one day! The trip was even more interesting since we’ve been binge watching Downton Abbey the last few weeks! I loved imaging the house buzzing with excitement and preparations for all that had to be done that day!

I took a ton of photos inside on my phone, but I’ll save those because you definitely need to experience it for yourself!! In the evenings during Christmas they have live music playing throughout the house and beautiful firelight dancing on the walls. It’s magical!! The gigantic Christmas Tree in the middle of the yard outside literally made me tear up when I saw it because it was so beautiful!

Matt is the most wonderful man I’ve ever met. He is incredibly kind, patient, genuine, and loving. I am so thankful to have him by my side through the ups and downs of life!!

He even lets me use him as a test subject LOL!

To top it all off, the new Star Wars movie came out last night. Since both of our families are big Star Wars fans, we couldn’t miss it! We decided to make it even more fun by dressing up for the occasion!! I still cannot believe that we did this! We had a blast though!
