How a VA is Different than an OBM

virtual assistant or online business manager? What is the difference and who should you hire?

If you’re a business owner who’s looking for some extra help, you may be considering hiring a VA or an OBM. Perhaps you’re already a VA and are looking to level up your skills and income. Or maybe you’re wondering if you should transition from a VA to an OBM. Whatever your situation, this episode is for you!

What is a Virtual Assistant?

So let’s start with VAs. A VA is someone who helps you with tasks in your business remotely. They’re not physically present with you. They can work online and communicate with you via Zoom, FaceTime, or other digital tools. VAs are implementers – you tell them exactly what to do, and they’ll do it for you. They’re great for repeatable tasks and processes that you don’t have time for anymore as you grow.

Some examples of tasks that a VA can do include graphics creation, scheduling social media posts, sending invoices, and keeping records. However, a VA is typically not a graphic designer, copywriter, or strategist. They won’t create new content or think outside of the box for you – they’ll simply take your existing content and instructions and implement them.

What is an Online Business Manager?

Now, let’s talk about OBMs. An OBM is a higher-level virtual support professional who works closely with you to manage and grow your business. They’re not just implementers – they also provide strategic thinking, planning, and project management. OBMs can help you streamline your processes, create systems, and improve your team’s productivity.

If you’re a business owner who wants to focus more on your zone of genius and let someone else take care of the day-to-day operations, an OBM may be a great fit for you. They can help you manage your team, delegate tasks, and free up your time to focus on the big picture.

Should you hire a Virtual Assistant or an OBM?

So, which one should you hire for your business? If you’re just starting out and need help with some basic tasks, a VA may be a good place to start. However, if you’re looking for someone to manage your business and help you grow it, an OBM may be the better choice. VAs are great for repeatable tasks. OBMs are higher-level virtual support professionals who can help you manage and grow your business. Consider your needs and goals when deciding which one to hire or become, and remember that both VAs and OBMs can be valuable members of your team.
