There is nothing like a Pretty Place wedding. The views are truly breathtaking. It is one of the gems of the southeast!! There aren’t many things that are better than a mountaintop wedding, except maybe a mountaintop sunrise first look! When Ashley & I began chatting about her wedding, I’d planned to start portraits at 8AM for their 10:30 wedding. We would do it as any other wedding day with the bridal preparations and then the first look and portraits. But something struck me a few weeks before their wedding as I was driving home from the gym at sunrise. What if we did their first look at sunrise?
I excitedly emailed Ashley suggesting the idea, and she happily agreed!! She LOVES sunrises, and I was glad, because I do too!! Ashley and her bridesmaids were going to be getting ready at an airbnb near Caesar’s Head State Park. So Bald Rock was the PERFECT spot to do their sunrise first look. GUYS. It seriously could not have been more perfect. The forecast had been calling for rain all week, but miraculously we had a glorious, cloud-free sunrise. I miiiiiight have gone a little overboard during their couple portraits. I took SO. MANY. The light was just too perfect to stop shooting, and they just looked too beautiful!!! It was a photographer’s dream.
Even though our portraits were literally perfect, that wasn’t the best part about Mark & Ashley’s wedding. The best part was getting to hang out with such a truly amazing and sweet couple!! Mark grew up in Greenville, but Ashley grew up in Florida. And they met in Colorado of all places!! Now they call Colorado Springs their home, and it truly fits them. They love the outdoors and especially hiking!
I got to drive Ashley to her First Look with Mark and we got to chat! I found out that she and Mark share a lot of similarities with me and Matt! Mark comes from a big family – so does Matt. Mark is totally adventurous – so is Matt. And all day Ashley was smily and bubbly, while Mark just quietly adored her. It was so sweet, and I had such a blast getting to hang out with her!! Even though we had a super tight schedule, I felt more like I was hanging out with friends, because they are just THAT genuine!
Mark & Ashley, it was truly an honor getting to meet you and your families and share in your special day! Your wedding was stunning, and I couldn’t be happier for you guys! Congratulations!
Huge shout out to my second shooter Devin Hayman, some of whose work is included below, and my mentoring student Rachael Caddell. I loved working with you guys!
